The poem ‘Now the leaves are falling’ has been composed by W.H.Auden. He was born in 1907. He was won the pulitzer prize in 1948 for the age of anxiety. Poetry to him was a serious game. He is talking about the frustra-tions of human life. It is a lyrical poem.

In this poem the poet has talked about old age of hu-man life. The poet says that we humans are like travelers (यत्री) who are getting old. Just as leaves fall from the tree after getting old in the same way humans die after getting old. The messenger of death is the whispering neighbour.

We have to die one day and new children come the same process continues. In old hood, man becomes physically weak and inactive

at that time the nightingale is cumb (गुंगा) and the angel will not come. Thus, this poem is a mixter of pessimism (निराशावाद) and optimism (आशावाद)

कविता ‘Now the leaves are falling’fast’ W.H.Auden के द्वारा लिखा गया है। इनका जन्म 1907 ई. में हुआ था। उन्हें ‘Age of Anxiety’ के लिए 1948 ई. में पुल्टिजर प्राइज मिला था। कविता उनके लिए एक गम्भीर खेल था। वह मानव जीवन के दुःखों के बारे में बात करते है। यह एक लिरिकल कविता है।

इस कविता में कवि ने मानव जीवन को बुढ़ापा काल के बारे में बात किये है। कवि कहते हैं की हमलोग मानव यात्री के जैसे हैं जो धीरे-धीरे बुढ़ा हो रहे हैं। जैसे की पत्ते पुराने होने के बाद गिर जाते है। मृत्यु दूत हमारे आस-पास ही रहता है। एक दिन हमें मर ही जाना है नई पीढ़ी आती है, और ऐसे ही यह प्रक्रिया लगातार चलती है।

बुढ़ापा में मनुष्य शारीरीक रूप से कमजोर और असक्रिय हो जाता है और समय मानों सभी बुलबुल शान्त हो जाते है, तथा बुढ़ापा में कोई फरिस्ता भी नहीं आता है। इस प्रकार यह कविता निराशावाद तथा आशावाद के एक मिश्रण है।
