The essay, ‘A child is born‘ was written by Germaine Greer. She was born in 1939 in Australia. She is a feminist writer. Her famous works are ‘The female Eunuch’, ‘The change’ and ‘Sex and Destiny: The politics of Human fertility. ‘A child is born’ is an extract from ‘sex and destiny’.

In this essay, Germaine Greer has described about delivery system in traditional & modern society that means eastern & Western culture. She says that the childbirth in traditional society is many & varied. A pregnant woman has to follow a lot of rituals & customs. After marriage woman goes to in-law’s house. इस निबंध में, जर्मन ग्रीर ने परम्परागत तथा आधुनिक समाज में प्रसव व्यवस्था का वर्णन किया है। वे कहती हैं कि प्रसव के तरीके पारम्परिक समाज में बहुत सारे और अनेकों प्रकार के हैं। इस समाज में एक गर्भवती महिला को बहुत रीति-रिवाजों को पालन करना पड़ता है। एक सिलहेटी महिला जो बांग्लादेश की होती है, गर्भावस्था के बाद वह अपने माँ के घर एक पुरस्कार के रूप में जाती है। सातवें दिन एक छोटा समारोह होता है, जिससे बच्चे को नए कपड़े तथा नाम दिया जाता है।
